Completed in late 1999, the enchanting Villa Pangi Gita epitomizes the new wave of elegance and comfort that is to be found in the contemporary villas of Bali. Its décor and amenities easily exceed those of a five-star hotel.
Named after the ‘singing’ Pangi River that borders its secret garden, Villa Pangi Gita is a romantic three-bedroom retreat that was designed by the architects of Bali’s renowned Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay. The property is comprised of a series of seven separate pavilions; a style based on the concept of the traditional Balinese family compound with a separate building or ‘balé’ for each function. The terraced gardens, designed by the acclaimed landscape architect, Made Wijaya, host three self-contained bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a kitchen and dining pavilion complete with bar, an open-air living room, a separate study pavilion, a bale bengong (Balinese relaxation gazebo) and a swimming pool. All of the structures are roofed in weathered ironwood shingles. The white of the walls and warm brown of the teak frames and floors, form the primary colours, juxtaposed against the greenery of Bali’s tropical plants.
Water plays a central and important role in the agriculturally-based culture of Bali, and this has been reflected in the layout of the property. Paths of white stepping stones traverse the ornamental ponds, water cascades down sets of stairs, and small fountains ensure that the relaxing sound of water can be heard in every corner. Walls bearing carved Palimanan stone panels demonstrate the creative caliber of Bali's artists, further enhancing the villa's ethnic links. Pangi Gita's owner is a serious collector of Asian antiques, and pieces from his collection are lovingly placed throughout the pavilions.
